On February 11, 1932, Hon. Stanley C. Wilson, at that time the Governor,of this State, on behalf of the State, and Charles I. Button, Esq., of Middlebury and Clarence W. De Knight, a member of the New York bar, entered into a written contract. Under this agreement the two attorneys were to take charge of, prosecute and endeavor to collect and recover from the government of the United States the claim of the State of Yermont for expenditures for military purposes in the war of 1812-1815 with Great Britain.
