We granted review to determine whether the court of appeals erred in its speedy trial analysis. We conclude that the court of appeals erred in several respects.

I. BACKGROUND

A. Facts

Appellant was arrested on May 6, 2001. He was charged with possession of more than four grams of a controlled substance (the present offense) and was released on bond.
