This case concerns the validity and enforceability of certain patents relating to the manufacture of so-called “soft contact lenses” (“soft lenses”). 1 The patents at issue are owned by the Defendant Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, which has exclusively sublicensed them to the Defendant National Patent Development Corp., which in turn sublicensed them to its subsidiaries, Flexible Contact Lens Corp. and Flexible Contact Lens (Nevada), Inc. 2 The National defendants in turn granted an exclusive sublicense to Defendant Bausch & Lomb, Inc.
