—Appeal from a judgment for the defendant and from an order denying a new trial. The suit was for libel, published in the defendant’s -newspaper, reflecting on the plaintiff as one of the board of trustees of the town of Los Gatos. The article complained of is as follows: —

“ RING, RING, RING.
“Mr. Editor,—With permission to encroach on your valuable space, I would state to the taxpayers of Los Gatos there are many kinds of Rings; the most interesting to the recipient, I presume, is the engagement Ring, especially so if it be a diamond; then there is the marriage Ring, and Rings worn…
