The plaintiffs allege that, on the 13th of January, 1836, they entered into a contract with the defendants for the construction of the West Feliciana Railroad, which contract is annexed to their petition; that the work required, and the materials to be furnished to execute this contract, amounted to the sum of $500,000, including extra charges for changes and alterations; that soon after the date of this contract they entered upon the execution of it, and continued to discharge their obligations under it up to the 1st of August, 1836, when…
