GARWOOD, Circuit Judge:

Kevin Jamal Rogers, a Texas state prisoner, appeals the district court’s denial of his petition for a writ of habeas corpus under 28 U.S.C. § 2254. Rogers seeks federal habeas relief from his Texas conviction for the murder of Dr. Lillie Lock-hart. Rogers was fifteen years old at the time of the offense, but he was certified to stand trial as an adult. A jury found Rogers guilty of capital murder, and the trial court assessed an automatic life sentence.
