The plaintiff and the defendant, who had been married for more than twenty-three years, were granted a dissolution of marriage on February 19,1981, on the ground of irretrievable breakdown. The major marital assets at that time consisted of the family home in Wethersfield, a greenhouse on the Berlin Turnpike and a machine shop in New Britain.
