Following his indictment on one charge of murder, Defendant Kevin Andrew Powell pled not guilty to the charge and was tried before a jury in Mecklenburg County Superior Court. The evidence presented at trial tended to show the following: On 10 March 2007, Latarshia Grant, the girlfriend of the victim, Jamarr Linell Flowers, dropped Flowers off at his home around 9:00 p.m. Grant returned to Flowers’s home between 10:30 and 11:00 p.m. and noticed that “the wood off the door was gone.” When she pushed through the door, Grant saw Flowers lying dead…
