OPINION

RABINOWITZ, Justice.

This appeal concerns a promissory note signed by John Johnson (“J. Johnson”) and Marjorie Ulmer (“Ulmer”) payable to H.F. Schaub (“Schaub”) and an addendum securing the note signed by J. Johnson and Rock-lyn Johnson (“R. Johnson”). At issue is whether the superior court erred in denying Ulmer and the Johnsons’ second motion for a continuance, in ruling that no genuine issue of material fact existed with regard to the note’s validity, and in holding R. Johnson jointly and severally liable for payment of the note.
