Appellee individually, and as supervisor of the town of South Chicago, on June 30, 1897, filed in the Superior Court of Cook County his petition for a writ of mandamus against appellant as assessor of the town of South Chicago, asking that a writ of mandamus issue commanding said appellant Grunning forthwith to bring the books of assessment of said town containing valuations and assessments of properties referred to in the complaints filed before the board of review of said town, as set forth in said petition, and produce said books before said board for its inspection and for the inspection…
