delivered the opinion of the Court:

This was a petition for a mandamus, brought by Michael' Gormley, in the Superior Court of Cook county, against John L. Day, as clerk of the village of Glencoe, to compel him to. post copies of an ordinance passed by said village on the third day of January, 1882, vacating certain streets and parts of streets in Gormley’s addition to said village, and also to compel the said Day to give to petitioner a certified copy of said ordinance.
