A single justice of this court ordered that Steven M. Foley (respondent) be suspended for eighteen months from the practice of law for assisting and encouraging his client in the preparation of a fabricated defense to a criminal complaint. While conceding that his conduct violated the rules of ethical conduct applicable to attorneys, the respondent appeals the punishment imposed as being too harsh and “markedly disparate” from sanctions imposed in similar cases.
