This is an admiralty case in which Bermuda Star Line, Inc. (BSL), appeals an August 2, 1989, judgment of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, Robert L. Carter, Judge, holding BSL liable for the maintenance and cure of one of its seamen, Ramon Rodriguez Alvarez, and finding that BSL’s callous indifference to Alvarez’s health and well-being entitled Alvarez to recover his attorneys’ fees and trial expenses from BSL.
