The litigants were divorced on June 25,1962, in an uncontested default proceeding. Custody of their two minor children, Holly and Susan, was awarded to plaintiff.

On July 23, 1968, defendant filed a petition for modification of the divorce decree with respect to the custody of the two children. At the initial hearing on the matter, psychiatric examinations were ordered. At the second hearing, letters from the two psychiatrists who had examined Holly were ruled inadmissible in the absence of testimony from the psychiatrists themselves.
