Batter, J.:

Respondent Smith was appointed by the district court to represent an indigent defendant who was charged with first degree murder and four other felony offenses. The defendant was ultimately allowed to plead guilty to first degree murder, and the other charges were dismissed pursuant to the negotiated plea. Respondent filed a motion for payment of excess fees, under NRS 7.125(6), which was granted by the trial judge and approved by the chief judge of the Eighth Judicial District Court.
