The defendant, Brian Hammell, appeals his convictions in Superior Court {McGuire, J.), on twelve counts of being a felon in possession of a weapon. We affirm in part and reverse in part.

The record establishes the following facts. On January 31,1999, Concord Police Officers William Dexter and Steven Smagula were dispatched to investigate an open line 911 call from an apartment in Penacook. Knocking on the door, Dexter heard a female voice say that they were all set, instructing Dexter to go away.
