OPINION

LEDERBERG, Justice.

This case came before the Supreme Court on appeals by the plaintiff, Michael J. Koziol, from Family Court decisions that awarded alimony and child support and distributed marital assets. After the appeals were filed, the Family Court issued a final judgment of divorce. Neither the plaintiff, who had filed a complaint for divorce, nor the defendant, Mary J. Koziol, who had counterclaimed for an absolute divorce, challenged the divorce itself.
