The defendant was convicted in 1976 in the Municipal Court of the City of Boston on two complaints: one charging him with the crime of carrying a firearm on his person in violation of G. L. c. 269, § 10, and the other charging him with the crime of possession of a firearm the serial number of which was defaced in violation of G. L. c. 269, § 11C. He appealed to the Superior Court. A judge in that court denied his motion to suppress, and a single justice of this court granted the defendant’s request for leave to appeal from that order. See G. L. c. 278, § 28E.
