On May 1, 1926, Patrick Golden entered into a pension contract with the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, a voluntary, unincorporated fraternal association. By the terms of the contract he was to receive a pension in the event of his becoming totally and permanently disabled, or upon reaching the age of seventy and being permanently retired from active service by his employer.
