BENAVIDES, Circuit Judge:

Before the Court are a number of issues stemming from the horrific ordeal of Seth A. Becker, a young man catastrophically injured while at sea on a gravel-packing assignment at an offshore oil rig. In a lawsuit involving multiple defendants and causes of action, the jury sitting in the district court found for plaintiff, awarding him damages in excess of $43 million. A number of issues, the most significant of which being whether plaintiff is a seaman under the Jones Act, 46 U.S.C. app. § 688 (2000), are before this Court on appeal.
