Case Summary

A jury convicted Joseph Rhone of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon following the recovery of two handguns from his home. Rhone appeals, alleging that the State failed to establish that he was a serious violent felon and that the trial court improperly instructed the jury regarding the elements of his offense. We vacate his conviction because we find that the only evidence presented by the State to establish that Rhone was a serious violent felon was inadmissible hearsay.
