WOLLMAN, Chief Judge.

Christopher L. Carroll appeals from the district court’s 1 denial of his petition for a writ of habeas corpus filed pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 2254. We affirm.

I

On March 1, 1995, a jury convicted Carroll of forcible sodomy under Missouri Re vised Statutes section 566.060, and he was subsequently sentenced to thirty years of imprisonment as a prior offender. The conviction stemmed from events that occurred on July 18, 1993, when Carroll and the victim, Jill Brownfield, who was at one time Carroll’s girlfriend, spent the evening together.
