In the evening of January 5, 1967, Deputy Wilcox of the Riverside County sheriff's office received a long distance call from a Mr. Ludwig who stated that he was in Texas on business. Mr. Ludwig told Deputy Wilcox that he owned a house at 77-060 Indiana Street in Palm Desert; that he knew there were some people staying at the house; that he had given no one permission to be in the house.
