On September 5, 1974 Mssrs. Hepler and Spece, Central Michigan University faculty members, [hereinafter appellants] filed a petition with the Michigan Employment Relation Commission [MERC] alleging that 30 percent or more of the bargaining unit members assert that the current certified bargaining unit representative — Central Michigan University Faculty Association (CMUFA) — is no longer their representative, and requested a decertification election. The petition was supported by showing of interest documents 1 signed by more than 30 percent of the bargaining unit members.
