The first issue to be decided in this case, which arises out of a motor vehicle accident, is whether the trial court improperly granted the defendant’s motion for a directed verdict on count two of the plaintiffs complaint, which alleged a violation of General Statutes §§ 14-227a1 and 14-218a2 and made a concomi*201tant claim for double or treble damages pursuant to General Statutes § 14-295.3 Because we conclude that the court should not have granted the motion and that a new trial is necessary, we reach the second issue, that is, whether the parties must relitigate issues…
