A cadet guard at the Baltimore City Jail surreptitiously carried a handgun into the jail and delivered it to an inmate who intended to use the weapon to effect an escape. The plot was revealed before the escape occurred. As a result, the appellants, Conrad Whitfield (Whitfield), Nigel Little (Little), and Peteta Davis (Davis)* 1 were indicted by the Grand Jury for Baltimore City and charged with conspiracy to violate the Maryland statute proscribing escape from jail.
