The defendant, a recipient of a public assistance grant under the program for aid to families with dependent children, was convicted by jury verdict of the crime of grand larceny as defined by RCW 74.08.331. From denial of alternative motions in arrest of judgment or new trial, she has appealed to this court.

RCW 74.08.331 defines the crime of “grand larceny”, in part, in these words:

Any person who by means of a wilfully false statement, or representation, or impersonation, or a wilful failure to reveal any material fact, condition or circumstance affecting eligibility of [or] need for…
