Appeal from a judgment of the County Court of Ulster County (Vogt, J.), rendered January 11, 1985, upon a verdict convicting defendant of the crime of murder in the second degree.

In the early morning hours of April 23, 1983, defendant, armed with a knife, went to the apartment of Rita Sievers. Defendant threatened her with his knife and then repeatedly stabbed her, causing her death. Sievers’ screams awakened her upstairs neighbor, Kathleen Simpson, who immediately called the police. Upon arrival, police found Sievers’ naked body in the hallway at the bottom of the stairs. Cause…
