Nature of the Case

The petitioners seek writs of habeas corpus under 28 U.S.C. § 2254 on the grounds of denial of effective assistance of counsel in their state criminal trial and that their guilty pleas there were not voluntarily and intelligently made.

Facts

The petitioners Bishop and Davis were arrested in December, 1975, at the Drake Court Apartments in Omaha, Nebraska, as suspects in connection with two robberies committed with the use of firearms. The petitioner Yates was arrested that same evening in an alley near the Drake Court Apartments.…
