George Ronald Brigham (defendant) was convicted, after a jury trial conducted in Du Page County, of various counts of unlawful possession of, and possession with intent to deliver, a controlled substance, as well as unlawfully possessing a firearm. (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1985, ch. 56½, pars. 1401(a)(2), 1402(a)(2), 704(d); ch. 38, par. 24— 3.1(a)(3).) The appellate court upheld his convictions. (165 Ill.
