SUTIN, Chief Judge.

{1} Defendant appeals the district court’s determination that he committed attempted second degree murder and assault on a peace officer with intent to commit a violent felony, and his subsequent commitment to the Las Yegas Medical Center (Las Vegas), pursuant to the New Mexico Mental Illness and Competency Act. See NMSA 1978, §§ 31-9-1 to -4 (1988, as amended through 1999).
