Plaintiff, a seaman, initiated this suit to recover damages for personal injuries sustained on April 18, 1975 on board a barge named “Tide 119” and owned and operated by defendant Interstate and Ocean Transport Company (“Interstate”). The case was tried before a jury which returned a verdict for plaintiff and awarded damages totalling $100,000. In response to special interrogatories, the Jury found that defendant Interstate was negligent and that plaintiff was not contributorily negligent.
