The parties to this appeal were married in 1952. They separated February 13, 1977. Appellee Gula Lytle, the wife, filed a petition for separate maintenance against appellant, Dr. Jimmie Lytle, on March 1, 1977. Dr. Lytle filed a counterclaim for absolute divorce on the ground of indignities to the person. After several preliminary hearings and orders, the case was set for trial on February 28, 1978. On February 13, 1978, Mrs. Lytle filed an amendment to her petition, alleging that Dr. Lytle had deserted her without cause and remained away since their separation. She…
