Backus v. Cowley

Appeal from Alcona; Connine, J. Bill by Newton D. Backus, administrator of the estate of Sarah E. Backus, deceased, against Lilian N. Cowley, the Au Sable River Lumber Company, and John H. Killmaster to set aside certain deeds. Defendants Cowley and Killmaster filed an answer in the nature of a cross-bill to quiet title to said land. Prom a decree for defendants, complainant appeals.

The bill filed by Sarah E. Backus as complainant in this case prayed that a certain State tax deed be decreed void, and that the cloud upon her title created thereby be removed; she claiming to be the owner of the lands described in said deed. After filing her bill, and before a hearing of the cause, Mrs. Backus died. In the original bill of complaint the Au Sable River Lumber Company and Lilian N.
