Appellant Melinda Binkley claims that Respondent Allina Health System and its staff negligently caused the death of her 17-year-old son, Kirk Lloyd, when they refused to admit him to an inpatient mental-health treatment facility. After some discovery, Respondents moved for summary judgment, arguing that they were entitled to immunity for their good-faith actions under the Minnesota Commitment and Treatment Act (“CTA”).
