Shortly after giving birth to her daughter in 1982, appellant, Sheri R. Traxler, received a blood transfusion. By 1988, when Sheri Traxler first learned that she, tragically, had become one of the approximately 600,000 women worldwide who are now afflicted with Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), the human immunodeficiency vims (HIV) had been identified and the risk of infection through blood transfusion discovered.
