CALABRESI, Circuit Judge:
This case, which is a disagreement over who is entitled to certain pension benefits, comes to us on a record that provides little or no guidance as to what law forms the basis of the dispute. It is in federal court under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), 29 U.S.C. §§ 1001-1461. And, major issues in dispute may well have to be resolved under federal law.
