SULLIVAN, C. J.
The plaintiff, Paul D. Shapero, appeals, following our grant of certification, from the judgment of the Appellate Court reversing the judgment of the trial court in his favor and remanding the case to the trial court with direction to render judgment for the defendant, Frank Mercede, Jr. The trial court had rendered judgment in the case in accordance with the report of the attorney trial referee (referee) to whom the matter had been referred. The report had recommended judgment for the plaintiff in the amount of $22,500 in his action seeking, inter alia, quantum meruit…
