We granted certiorari 1 to review the court of appeals decision in Lewis v. Columbus Investments, 36 P.3d 75 (Colo.App.2001) to determine whether the county treasurer correctly followed the notice procedures of seetion 39-11-128(1)(a) in issuing notice of a pending tax deed following sale of a tax lien. The court of appeals reasoned that the original holders' assignment of their promissory note and deed of trust to Norwest Bank as collateral for a loan was only a security device; thus, the original holders retained an interest in the underlying real propérty for the purpose of section…
