The plaintiff (Evans), a supplier of materials to D. J. Development Corporation (D. J.) for use in the construction of buildings, filed a notice of contract in the Barnstable County registry of deeds on July 26, 1974, as the first step in perfecting a materialman’s lien under G. L. c. 254, § 7, as appearing in St. 1973, c. 801, § 3. It is not disputed that the construction mortgages for these buildings had been recorded prior to the notice of contract.
