These appeals are concerned with lineups. A lineup, also known as an “identification parade” or “showup,” is arranged by the police investigating the commission of a crime. It is a confrontation between a suspect and prospective identifying witnesses, and its purpose is to obtain evidence establishing that the suspect is the criminal agent.
