Emeritus Corporation (“Emeritus”) operates an assisted living facility called Canterbury Court in Cameron County, Texas. In August 2012, a resident of Canterbury Court, suffering from dementia with a “history of exit[-]seeking behaviors,” was left unsupervised and left the facility through its activity-room courtyard. The resident was found dead shortly thereafter.
