On August 3, 2000, Appellant was tried by a military judge sitting alone as a general court-martial convened at Beale Air Force Base (AFB), California. Pursuant to his pleas, Appellant was convicted of one specification of attempted wrongful use of a controlled substance, three specifications of wrongful use of a controlled substance, and one specification of wrongful distribution of a controlled substance, in violation of Articles 80 and 112a, Uniform Code of Military Justice [hereinafter UCMJ], 10 U.S.C. §§ 880, 912a (2000).
