DOBIE, Circuit Judge.

This case arose out of a tragic collision between a motor truck owned by James Melville and a tractor-trailer truck owned by the Acme Poultry Corporation. On each of these trucks were two men and all four of them were killed. There were no eye-witnesses to the accident. A civil action against Melville, removed from a state court to the United States District Court for the District of Maryland and tried with a jury, brought on account of the death of John Morris (an occupant of the Acme truck), resulted in a verdict and judgment against Melville for $18,000, from which he…
