BORDEN, J.

The defendant appeals, following our grant of certification,1 from the judgment of the Appellate Court affirming the trial court’s judgment of conviction, rendered after a jury trial, of manslaughter in the first degree with a firearm in violation of General Statutes § 53a-55a.2 The defendant claims that the Appellate Court improperly concluded that he had failed to establish a constitutional violation in the trial court’s instructions on the law of self-defense.
