BARR, Judge:

Appellant was arraigned at a special court-martial upon a charge of desertion, in violation of Article 85, Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) 10 U.S.C. § 885. The inclusive period of absence alleged within the charge was from 16 October 1979 to 13 January 1984. The charge was received by the officer exercising summary court-martial jurisdiction (OESCMJ) on 16 October 1981. At trial, appellant pleaded guilty to the charge and specification as a violation of Article 86, UCMJ, 10 U.S.C. § 886, for the total period alleged.
