Following a jury trial, James Mackey (defendant) was convicted of murder (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1985, ch. 38, par. 9 — 1) and armed robbery (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1985, ch. 38, par. 18 — 2) and sentenced to an extended term of 60 years.
