Plaintiff appeals as of right from an order of the trial court granting summary judgment in favor of defendants pursuant to GCR 1963, 117.2(1).

Plaintiff is an assistant professor of criminal justice at Michigan State University. On December 5, 1980, the board of trustees of the university (hereináfter defendant) approved a 2.5-day layoff for all university employees, except those performing essential services.
