The conviction of the defendant on the charge of first-degree murder is challenged on a number of grounds, each of which will be dealt with separately.

On rebuttal, after the defendant had taken the stand to testify that he could not recall any of the events of the shooting and could not recall telling the police anything about the shooting, the state called Police Officer Watters as a rebuttal witness.
