ERROR TO THE CIRCUIT COURT OF THE UNITED STATES FOR THE SOUTHERN DISTRICT- OF NEW YORK. This was an action against a collector of. customs to recover duties alleged to have been illegally exacted. Verdict for the plaintiff and judgment on the verdict.' The defendant sued out this writ of error. The case is stated in the opinion.

This is a suit to recover alleged excess of duties exacted on certain cargoes of asphaltum in cakes, imported by Bradbury, the plaintiff below, from Antwerp, in May, 1883.
